The second Carr division one win in a row for the Bellerose Bulldogs in metro Edmonton football was Friday’s 24-22 result against the Jasper Place Rebels at Johnny Bright Park.

Early in the fourth quarter, and the Bulldogs leading 17-14, Colton Meronyk ran nine yards into the endzone on an option play and Jaedon Carroll’s third conversion of the game put the Bulldogs up by 10.

Meronyk finished the game with 36 yards on nine carries while filling in for starting running back Zach Nuttall.

Grade 12 quarterback Morgan Sherban spearheaded the attack by completing 13 of 20 passes for 136 yards and threw touchdown strikes to Corbin Stewart for 10 yards to open the scoring and 13 yards to Darryl Broderick in the third quarter. Sherban also gained 97 yards on 13 carries.

Carroll was the team’s top rusher with 101 yards on seven carries and caught four passes for 46 yards. He also booted an 18-yard field goal to make it 10-0 in the first quarter.

Eric Calkins was on the receiving end of four passes for 42 yards and Stewart had three catches for 26 yards.

Logan Moreau was credited with eight tackles, followed by Drew Morison with six and five apiece for Matt Heinrichs, Elliot Saive and Ryan Young. Heinrichs and Terrell Peters also recorded one quarterback sack apiece.

The Bulldogs trailed 14-10 at halftime after leading 10-8 to start the second quarter

The Bulldogs improved to 2-1 after the win and the Rebels are 1-2.

Thursday the Bulldogs travel to Sherwood Park to play the Salisbury Sabres (1-0-1) at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $5.

The Sabres are sixth and the Bulldogs are seventh in the Football Alberta Tier I (1,250-plus students) rankings.

The Battle of St. Albert between the Bulldogs and Paul Kane Blues is Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
